Vitamin C Deficiency May Be Linked To Respiratory Disorders

In a recent two-year study, researchers found that vitamin C may prevent symptoms linked to airway diseases such as asthma, cystic fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The scientists discovered that vitamin C supports the normal hydration of airway surfaces, while a deficiency in the vitamin may contribute to dry, sticky mucus membranes lining the airways. Consequently, poor levels of vitamin C may contribute to the progression of common inflammatory airway diseases by making airways conducive to infections.
