Magnesium Shown to Lower Risk of Metabolic Syndrome

A recent study examined the relationship between magnesium intake and the incidence of metabolic syndrome. The study involved more than 4,500 Americans between the ages of 18 and 30. During the 15 years of follow-up, 608 subjects developed metabolic syndrome which encompasses diseases such as hypertension and type II diabetes. The study concluded that young adults with higher magnesium intake have a lower risk of developing metabolic syndrome. More research is needed to confirm these findings.
